How Does Kybella Work?

Kybella® is an injectable, FDA-approved medication used to reduce the fat below the chin (submental fullness), also known as “double chin.” Kybella destroys excess fat cells in the treatment area to help you to achieve a more defined jaw line, something diet and exercise alone cannot do.*

Kybella is made of synthetic deoxycholic acid, which replicates a molecule naturally found in the body that helps in the breakdown and absorption of fat.

Kybella is injected into the fat beneath the chin and dramatically reduces the presence of fat cells. This treatment limits the fat cells’ ability to store or accumulate fat.*

After treatment, you’ll notice a reduction in fullness under the chin. When you reach your desired aesthetic goal, further treatment is not necessary.*

What To Expect from Your Kybella Treatment?

Since everyone’s chin profile is different, the number of treatments varies. We will help determine how many treatment sessions you need based on the amount and distribution of your submental fat and your personal treatment goals.

Kybella treatment sessions must be at least one month apart. Most patients require a few treatment sessions, although in some cases, up to six sessions may be needed.*

Treatment is performed by one of our licensed medical professionals. At each treatment session, you will receive multiple small injections into the fat under your chin. Each session takes about 20 to 30 minutes. The exact number of injections will depend on the amount of fat you have under your chin and your desired profile. After a Kybella treatment, you will likely have some swelling, bruising, or numbness under your chin for several hours to days. It will take at least four to six weeks to see the results from each treatment.
